Honestly, I thought it was going to be a one-day hit. But then, one of the major fashion brands released its new trendy earrings, and to my surprise, beaded tassels became very popular not only in the fashion world but also in the handmade world. I have made and sold beaded tassels for the past four years. When I sensed it is going to be a very popular jewelry item to sell, I couldn’t find any bead supply shop selling ready-to-use tassels. So I made my first tassels from embroidery thread I had in stock. Later I found very affordable tassels in many color variations sold in one of the New York bead and jewelry supply stores. My personal idea was just to add beads to plain looking tassels. Those who love beads, can’t call a bunch of tied threads – jewelry.
At first, I beaded a band using peyote stitch. It quickly turned into a cap which I finished weaving right on the earring. The look resembled a folk style. I was impressed by the result and started selling.
Later I created a different band for a longer tassel. I used the flat spiral stitch, which I haven’t notice using by anybody else.
