I can spend hours looking at designer dress collections, and when I get an opportunity to design beadwork dress decor elements, I jump on it!
The main task for this dress decor was to design beaded strap decorations. Relatively an easy task when I think of visual elements.
However, it becomes a challenge when I think of comfort, fabric features, and dress care.
Challenges
Preparing for work took more time than executing it. No surprises here.
I had several different ideas on how to decorate straps, but only one design would allow:
- straps to remain adjustable
- the flexibility of the material
- future cleaning without damaging the beadwork design
Techniques and Materials
As some of you might recognize looking at the photos, I used CRAW stitch and 15/0 beads. Beading with 15s using CRAW is a very slow process, but when I think of elegant design solutions, I must use what looks best.
Freshwater pearls are something I can’t avoid when we talk about classics. Also, my choice of color seemed to be best to combine with a wide range of jewelry metals.
I am not going into detail about how I created this design. Dress decor is not my specialty yet, and this is my first custom order of this kind.
