According to the Chinese calendar, the year of a Rat will start in February. I wanted to have a new jewelry accessory for this year, and I decided I will try making a mouse brooch.
Color

It was easy to pick the primary color for this beading project. The Pantone color of the year is Classic blue. I have lots of blue outfits. Why not make a blue beaded mouse brooch?
But I ended up using only half of them. I didn’t want the brooch to look like a bead soup in the shape of a mouse.
Preparation
Next, I outlined a mouse on paper, cut it out, and tried to imagine if I would want to wear a brooch of this size. Then I adjusted the size of it.
When I was happy with the size, I transferred the drawing to the bead backing fabric and started working on the embroidery.
Embroidery
The embroidery did not take very long. Roughly, two days, maybe. Therefore I consider it a rather quick project, comparing to other bead embroidered jewelry I’ve made before. Keep in mind that preparation takes time, and it is an essential part of the project because the whole design and the result depend on it.

I am not entirely happy with the result of this embroidery, but the good part is, I know what I should improve when I start working on the next mouse brooch.
I am also pleased with how the tail turned out to be a fun feature of this mouse.
The next mouse brooch will be made in different colors. Of course, I will add a tail. A mouse without a tail is an odd animal, don’t you think?

Happy beading!
I’d love to know more about making the mouse broach. We are always critical of our own creations. I think your mouse is PERFECT!!!
Thank you so much for the kind words, Susie! I am working on the second mouse brooch now and improving the outline. You will see it soon!
