Classic Blue Pantone color 2020 symbolizes constancy, credibility, and trustworthiness in our seem to be a chaotic world.
Despite many negative online reactions to this choice of color for 2020, I feel very positive about it. And the reason is very simple. I’ve been working with this color and loving it for years.
“Classic Blue is “a boundless blue evocative of the vast and infinite evening sky” while also being a colour that challenges us to “think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication”. – Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute
Vacationing on Maui recently, I was completely captivated by the colors of the sky and the ocean. After 8-10 hours days at the computer, or working under the task light, these colors felt like a relief. The Hawaiian sunsets helped me overcome grief and sadness after losing my cat, my beading companion. After returning home I even felt that my eye vision was slightly improved.
“The need for simplicity and escapism from technology is in part, the reason that consumers are craving blues like Chinese Porcelain that bring us closer to natural elements such as the sea and sky”. – Dee Schlotter, senior colour manager at PPG Paint
The deep ocean, the evening sky, the thorough thinking process, the trustworthiness – all are close to my heart and brain. And I am sure you can find a lot for yourself in this color.
The exact color code for Pantone’s Classic Blue is 19-4052.

Stones
The following stones might be a good choice to feature classic blue color:
Drusy Stones
What is druzy? Druzy gets its name from the word “druse,” which refers to a rock surface covered with tiny crystals.
One of my druzy pendants was a lovely and relatively quick bead embroidery project to work on.
Lapis Lazuli
Lapis lazuli – one of my favorites. The blue lapis used to be more precious than gold in ancient times. I loved working on Denim Bay necklace where I combined lips and denim color beads.
Kyanite
Kyanite – Very dark blue, quite rich in color. Although, in my collection, I have more of a washed-off blue color and a cheaper version of it.
You might also consider zircon – it can actually be found in very dark blue translucent colors, and fluorite – blue fluorite is very rare and quite amazing.
If you already have some beadwork featuring Classic Blue, or just going to create it, use these ideas on how to combine it with clothes.
- Denim
- Sea-green dresses and blouses
- Black dresses and coats
- Grey turtlenecks and oversized sweaters
Happy beading!
