How did the CRAW stitch pendant with feathers idea come to my mind?
I don’t know.
It is one of those designs I didn’t plan. I wasn’t looking for any inspiration. And I don’t know how it appeared in my mind.
I just started imagining the structure of the pendant and rushed to start beading.
Beads and Colors
I chose seed beads of sizes 11 to make a Peyote cylinder for the feathers.
Then I used seed beads size 11 and 15 to weave “D” elements (see description below).
I also needed 3 mm Firepolished beads and 15/0 seed beads for the structure.
I used only two colors of the beads for this pendant: orange and dark blue.
CRAW Stitch Pendant With Feathers
So how did I make this pendant? I invite you to watch the video to see the process of creation.
First, I made five “D” shapes using the Cubic Right Angle Weave stitch.
To wrap the structure around the feathers, I had to connect these “D” elements. As I mentioned above, I used 3 mm Firepolished Czech beads, and seed beads size 15 in-between “D” elements for connections.
Then I weaved the Peyote cylinder. This cylinder protects the feathers, and they are securely attached to it. I made the cylinder after completing the main structure because I had to fit the cylinder inside the main design structure without a problem. Creating this design for the first time, I couldn’t predict the main structure’s exact diameter.
If you watched the video, you noted that the cylinder is shorter than the pendant’s outer structure. Do you know why?
The Bail
Well, I don’t always know the exact steps of the design execution.
At this point, I had to figure out how to close the top part of the pendant nicely and attach the bail so that it looks like it always belonged there.
I tried to pick a similar bail I used for the Black and Orange Feather Pendant, but it seemed out of style for this design.
So I decided to close the top using netting stitch.
That is why I placed the 12 mm Rivoli crystal on top of the Peyote cylinder. Then I made a netting stitch closure and attached the bail.
For the bail, I used the round part of the small toggle clasp for bracelets.
I hope you like the design. Let me know if you have any questions or more design ideas in the comments below.
Happy beading!
