Every time I vacation on Maui, I visit Lahaina to walk through art galleries and watch the sunset after. Lahaina galleries are among my favorite fine art galleries in the States. I discovered Alexei Antonov, Victor Bregeda, and many other notable artists, sculptors, and photographers there.
Sergent Fine Art
One of the must-see galleries in Lahaina is Sargent Fine Art.
I love the selection of artwork. Besides exploring diverse styles and forms, visitors can enjoy a live painting demonstration every weekend, watching one of the artists create a new painting.
During my visit, I observed Gleb Golubetski, a contemporary impressionist, starting one of his paintings. What an exciting process, and what a mystery! Guessing what happens in the artist’s head when he layers colors on a canvas is so much fun!
Peter Lik Gallery
Photographs of Peter Lik transport me into the world of nature. I love the rich colors and peaceful compositions.
During this visit, I saw the new portrait of a lion – “an incredible symbol of power and authority,” in the artist’s words.
Harte International Galleries
Glen and Devon Harte love finding lost treasures and take great pride in resurrecting their finds.
I was so excited to see Rembrandt and Durer’s art and become a part of art history for the time being. What a treat to explore the lines and compositions of these great artists.
Also, I finally had a chance to see Anthony Hopkins’ paintings there.
Kush Fine Art
I’ve seen Vladimir Kush’s art before, but for some reason, this my most recent visit to his Lahaina gallery in 2023 became memorable. I walked from one painting to another in awe. So many ideas and perspectives on seeing the world and transforming this vision into a flat image impressed me. Moreover, flat paintings looked very much dimensional thanks to the artist’s talent and skills. However, instead of visually dissecting every paint stroke, I wanted to dive into the painting and live in the painted world to understand it.
Vladimir Kush
Vladimir Kush is one of the most original artists of our time. Through hard work and talent, he founded a new branch of art – metaphorical realism, showcased worldwide and in several of his galleries.
The artist’s goal is to reflect the world in the mirror of the metaphor. The metaphor does not only belong to linguistic communication but can also be found in our daily life.
The painter’s mission is to find a metaphorical “parallel” for every side of real life. The element of unexpectedness will shake up the viewer and awaken his artistic nature.
It was hard to pick one favorite painting or sculpture from this gallery. I was torn between the sea and flower themes. Can you name your favorite? (see more paintings below)
