Matching Bead Embroidery Thread Color

Very often, when we choose a bead embroidery thread color for the project, we tend to match it with the bead color.
I won’t argue that this is the most usable solution to the color match problem. And the easiest to understand.
However, sometimes, we don’t have all the thread colors we need.
Even when we have a large stash of supplies, there is always something missing, right? I bet, is sounds familiar to many of you.

Matching Bead Embroidery Thread Color

For my recent embroidery project, I couldn’t find the exact match of the thread color. Since I chose only two colors of the beads for the project, dark red and blue, I thought I could find a blue or a gray thread for the blue beads.
Minutes later, I realized that both blue and gray colors I have stood out a lot next to my blue beads.

Why?
Because my stiff backing material was a different color.
Then I tried using the same dark red or rusty brown thread I used for the center of the pendant. And I noticed that it is not as visible against the backing material even though the thread color is not matching the beads.

The solution is obvious and simple: you may choose the thread color according to your base, as well as the surrounding colors of the beads.
In my case, the dark red thread I used for the one line of the blue beads in the embroidery, blended in with the backing material, and with the beads.
Of course, would it be the contrasting and light color of the backing material, I would not even consider the dark thread colors at all.
