Why not make a beaded heart sweater for Valentine’s Day?
I came up with this idea after last year’s snowfall in our area that started right before Valentine’s Day. It was freezing outside, and no matter what was planned for the evening, all I wanted was to wear something to keep me warm and comfortable for the cozy -at-home celebration. It had to have a fancy touch.
One of the accents could be my Heart Brooch. I still love this brooch, but I usually wear it against white, black, or grey. This time I wanted the outfit to be pink.
So I made a new Heart Sweater!
Materials
I used a sequin ribbon, seed beads, and double spiral beadwork I made.
Believe it or not, it was hard to match the colors of beads with the sequins and the sweater. It seems to me I will never have enough beads. I can’t stress enough that it is crucial to organize your beads, so you can search and find everything you need within your collection. I have my beads in order, but I had to clean up the space for this project because switching from beadweaving to embroidering takes more space.
The Process Of Making My Heart Sweater
It is all started with the sweater. I thought it was going to be just another pink sweater, but when this thought landed in my mind, I decided it was time to make it MY sweater.
First, I experimented with the size of the heart. It is easy when you know how to draw a perfect heart shape of any size.
Then I cut the shape out of the sequin ribbon and added some seed beads between the sequins.
The next step was to attach it to the sweater. I sew it on, carefully hiding the threads under the sequins.
Double-Spiral Beadwork
How to cover and decorate the edges of the heart? I was planning to use embroidery stitches, but the sweater was too thick to keep the beadwork neat. So I used double-spiral beadwork to decorate the edges of the heart.
I created two beadwork pieces and attached them by sewing between the beads in the center of the spiral.
