Peyote Stitch Bracelet Idea

Peyote stitch is relatively easy and wide known off-loom bead weaving technique. It is incredible how many different designs you can create using this technique.

Today I would like to share one simple idea how to create a beaded bracelet with a peyote base.  I sold several bracelets of this kind recently. You might like to add this peyote stitch bracelet idea to your collection.

It all started with my own “Merry Berry” bracelet with freshwater pearls.

After selling an identical “Merry Berry” custom made bracelet I decided to try another color and faceted crystals instead of pearls. I called it “Evening in the Garden” bracelet because it was a product of summer evening beading in my backyard listening to jazz.

This bracelet was given as a gift to a wonderful vocalist and composer Claudia Villela who captured my imagination during Vancouver Jazz Festival 2015.

Then I completed an identical bracelet as a custom order.

At the same time I started “Merry Berry” in purple thinking: I have to have at least one for sale in my shop or to take with me to the show!

Finally, I prepared these simple instructions for you to try. I am sure you will add new and creative elements to this design and make it unique and unforgettable.

If you are not familiar with peyote stitch, watch my video tutorial for the Flat Even-Count Peyote technique, which covers exactly what you need to know to make this bracelet.

or would like to practice it more, consider getting Peyote Stitch: Basic Techniques. It is my favorite book on peyote stitch so far!

Instructions

Materials

I suggest using Fireline 6lb or 8 lb size. Nylon thread might not hold the weight of this bracelet well.

#8 seed beads for the base of the bracelet; #11 seed beads for the textural effect; your choice of accent beads 3-10 mm and #15 seed beads.

Start with a peyote base. If you are not familiar with Peyote stitch, follow these instructions:

The width of the base is 12 beads. Continue adding rows until you rich the desired length. Keep in mind the size of the clasp you chose for this bracelet. I suggest using 4-strand side lock clasp.

Finish one side with several rows of #11 seed beads using two in place of each #8 seed bead in the base. Complete 3-4 rows.

Texture

To create the texture you just need to pick up seven #11 seed beads and pass through same #8 seed bead making a loop. Then pass through nearest #8 see bead and make another loop.

To add accents I used pearls or faceted glass beads, but you may use any beads you like. Pass through you accent bead, pick up #15 seed bead, pass back through same accent bead and weave inside of #8 seed beads to the next spot where you would like to place another accent bead.

I place my accent beads randomly – several in one spot, or one at a time. You can experiment and design your own way to embellish this bracelet. It is an exiting process. I hope you will have fun and try making your own peyote stitch bracelet using this tutorial.

You may cover the edges of the bracelet with seed beads, or leave some spots uncovered to add texture to the design and reveal the base of the bracelet.

I called this particular bracelet “Root Beer” and I can’t wait to start another one!
