What is your holiday jewelry color?
I have several favorite combinations, and one of them is red and gold.
Let’s see how this combination plays out in beaded accessories for the holiday season.
Color Meaning
Red
Red color meaning changes across cultures. I would like to focus on the positive perception of this color.
And there are many:
- in Asian cultures red is a very important color — it symbolizes good luck, joy, prosperity, celebration, happiness, and a long life;
- Red symbolizes love and passion in many countries in North and South America and Europe;
- in Indian culture, Red can represent wealth, purity, love, marriage, and beauty
Gold (Yellow)
The gold color is actually a yellow color. Those of you, who have trouble matching gold beads with other colors, think of yellow. It has been used in jewelry for ages. Gold often represent wealth, when it comes to accessories, but it also has other meanings as a yellow color:
- In the Middle East – happiness and prosperity;
- in Japan – courage, beauty, aristocracy, and cheerfulness;
- in India, it is sacred and auspicious; in Western cultures, it has several meanings like happiness, joy, hope and caution warning, but it rarely carries the same meaning in jewelry.
Beading Ideas
Of course, how can we dress for holidays without crystals or any other sparkling details to decorate our outfits?
In my jewelry projects for this article, I used bezeled 12 mm Swarovski riviolis. You can find my video tutorial on how to bezel 12 mm rivoli here:
Small Pendant on a Long Chain
Long pendants with long chains have been in fashion for a while. Why not make another one for holidays?
I decorated bezeled 12 mm rivoli with minimal beadwork design and attached a basic Russian leaf.
How do you weave a basic Russian leaf? I followed a pattern in a bead magazine, but there are many tutorials online available. Here is one I liked:
Russian Leaf Earrings
A pendant always needs earrings. Well, most of the time! At least for holidays, it is always better to wear a set rather than one piece of jewelry.
I made these earrings following the same technique I described above.

Long Earrings
When it comes to designing long earrings, I solve this quickly.
Every bezeled revoli can handle a drop! At least, this is my motto! What is yours?
Tear-drops are my favorites. In these earrings, I used beads made in the USA by a company called Bead Master.
