When I fell in love with Kheops Puca beads, my local craft store supplied me with a free beaded element pattern. I replaced the Matubo beads that were featured in the original pattern with 3 mm square beads and made myself a pair of earrings.
At the same time I was intrigued by the geometric bead patterns from the Shaped Beadwork by Diane Fitzgerald. My Flying Saucers design is the result of of some experiments I made with some of the designs featured in the book. I couldn’t find the cones that were suggested in the book, so I replaced them with hematite beads and bi-cones. Here is the result:
I found these lovely earrings at an Oregon coast winery during one of my trips to Newport. Recycled glass beads and a metal element with a fish motif imprint reflect the coastal theme quite nicely and make these earrings by Cristi Haiser a perfect souvenir!
At last, after a long break away from my beading table, I visited the fishing department at one of the large outdoor stores and found perfect components for my next earrings: fishing lures. I was wearing an orange flannel shirt at the time, which inspired me to create a pair of earrings specifically for the outdoor activities I had planned for that particular shirt. I used primarily a right angle weave, curving the beaded element by weaving one side of it with #11 beads and the other with #15.
Being born under the Pieces sign I always have an excuse to wear something fishy!
